| Taking advantage of the Beefmaster’s naturally gentle disposition and hardiness, the San Pedro Ranch has recently begun to emphasize another benefit of the breed –grass fed finishing. Gentle cattle simply perform better, whether on grass or in the feedlot. Our cattle are early maturing and grade well, so well in fact that we are able to take advantage of the growing demand for grassfed beef. Now certified members of the Grassfed Alliance (GFA) which supplies grass fed beef to Whole Foods Market, the San Pedro is further improving its herd by carefully selecting animals with high IMF, REA, and tenderness scores in additional to the Beefmaster essential traits. Animal welfare and safety – two of the most important criteria for the Grassfed Alliance – have always been a standard procedure at the San Pedro where cattle are handled gently and carefully from the time they are born in order to reduce stress and to promote wellbeing and weight gain. |
